RÛR: RÛR
Release date: 30. March 2018
By Xenia Kromann
This album is written and recorded in September/October 2017, by C. L. behind the one-man band RÛR. At first it was released as an digital EP on Bandcamp in November 2017, and contained only the first three songs. This time it has been released by Northern Silence Productions as a full length album with four songs. The album has a length of 46:19 minutes in total.
If you are addicted to atmospheric/ambient black metal, you will immediately listen the entire album through after a few seconds in the first song. The sound on this album has everything atmospheric black metal is expected to have. The first song starts with the sound as if the wind is wandering around you. The harsh melodies surround you and bite you with a strong cold, as if it were a very cold winter's day. The sound of rain and rocks that fall, and the imagination of being lead into another world, comes directly to one when listening to this album.
This album might not appeal to you, if you are not already caught by the genre.
Deeper and deeper on my journey through the songs, I get tremendous clear images of this other world I am being sent to. I am clearly caught by this album.
It is a melodic album all the way through. All songs are long, and therefore it is an album, even though there are only 4 songs. They are equal in some ways, though they build themselves to an extreme level of atmospheric riffs with a high pace that pierce right into your ears. There is also some synth in the back somewhere in the mix. There are vocals stored in few places, I will describe them as direct shouting and screaming. Definitely black metal vocals.
All in all, this release is completely what I wanted it to be, with this crispy sound. And I am looking forward to what RÛR may come up with in the future.
