Winterfylleth: The Hallowing of Heirdom
Album released: 6. April 2018
This album made me so confused about the band. After every two years you expect a new album from them, but this year I was at first very disappointed and I had so many mixed feelings about their new album. My mind was totally somewhere else when listening to the new album the first time. I wanted it to be DARK, DEEP or just totally blowing me away. But "The Hallowing Of Heirdom" is the direct opposite of what they have done in their past, not just opposite, but incomparable and completely different from everything they've ever made.
For the people that like Viking or Folk music, "The Hallowing of Heirdom" will be a new exciting album to listen to, this thing is a masterpiece when it comes to these genres. When all is said, and I listened to the album again and again, I became more interested in hearing every little detal of it, and so I did.
The first track, "The Shepherd", welcome you in some way to the album and into this new album, in the perfect start with a warm feeling that flows through you.
Some of the songs on this album are instrumental, and some just have a choir with impressive guitar leads that takes you to a completely foreign place like the album cover photo could be resemblance to. It's a beautiful record that captures you, totally magical, with all the different instruments and choirs that are on each song. It makes you wanna go somewhere, like the best place you know. It makes me think of Tolkien's The Hobbit or The Lord of the Rings.
For me the album is perfect for a Sunday in the sun, or on the way home from a long festival.

The album cover is so appealing, thought of, reflected and says everything about the album.
This is the highest level of experimentation from the band, with all their affection and dedication for this new album. With every acoustic melody and every violin stroke, the songs build themselves higher and higher, but sadly it's only the first track that gets to the point where it's just feels absolutely complete. The rest of the album just doesn't go all the way to the top, but they sure will tell you a magical story.
"Resting Tarn" and "Embers" speaks directly to your soul, with a feeling of old times and lands far away. The violins shoot you with another feeling of wing through your hair while standing on a cliff thinking about everything and nothing.
All in all, "The Hallowing of Heirdom" by Winterfylleth is an astonishing album. When they can produce an album like this, we can only hope for more good things in the future.
