Daagh: Daagh (EP Review)

Daagh: Daagh EP
Release date: 23. September 2018
Label: Wolfspell Records

By Xenia Kromann

The atmospheric sound that defines Daagh, is not new but it clearly shows where he finds his inspiration to the music. With this EP as the first release, there can only be massive things in sight. With more new Norwegian black metal like this there is no fear of what the future brings within the genre.

Daagh's self-titled EP was released this year with five tracks, in a total variation of 35 minutes. We are taken through a lot of cold feelings throughout the EP. The first track starts out utterly catchy, with an atmospheric melody that is addictive. The vocal fits in perfectly and gives a passionate impression to complete the track to the end. Track two continues with the same addictive sound, the sensation of snow, frost and darkness comes to the attention once you hear the tracks and look at the cover of the EP itself, it's literally ice cold.

This EP is clearly influenced by Burzum's earlier days, some would say.. the rise of Norway. All in all, it's an outstanding debut, breathtaking atmosphere with lots of regret, pain, hope and isolation. It was more than i had hoped for.
