Morast + Vidargängr / Loppen 24.10.18 (LIVE REVIEW)

Wednesday evening Loppen was met by absolute hatred when two German bands guested Copenhagen: Blackened doom metallers Morast and black metal group Vidargängr who are currently touring together.

Vidargängr has had an exciting year with touring a lot around Europe which have kept them busy. Yesterday Copenhagen had the pleasure of them, and I must say that when they played, I experienced the best sound I have ever heard at the venue. Attending this evening was around 50 people of a very engaging crowd. As they entered the stage, you could feel the darkness and funeral feeling as the room was filled with candles. The five representatives with their inhuman appearance gave the audience a great choice of numbers. 40 minutes of fast tempos, shrieking vocals and distorted guitars is everything this show showed. At the very end, the vocalist stormed off stage while the rest of the members were still playing which indicated that he would return, just until they left one by one, and you had this question mark on your face because of their mysterious acting. The red toned lighting backed up the whole mood for their performance of this blackened misty night. This was my favorite part of the evening, and I am sorry for those who stayed home!

To end this already tremendous night, the blackened doom metal band Morast was ready to give us their contribution. Last year they released their debut album ‘Ancestral Void’ that the audience seemed to like a lot this evening. These well-dressed gentlemen looked nothing like the music they played, but that was not going to stop them from expressing themselves on stage. The vocalist who goes by the name F changed between howls and clean vocals during the set, which complimented their songs. Especially the bass was to feel through your body, which lifted the atmosphere, while the guitarist had his face covered with his hair almost the entire hour. The focus was on the drummer; this guy seemed engaged in his performance and also reminded the front man once that he should speak English to the audience because we were not in Germany.

Due to some unfortunat sound problems here and there, I was not pleasantly surprised by their sound and their appearance on stage. It did not caught me or made any impact on me compared to other bands within the genre, especially after the previous experience I got the same night.
