It's been ten years since their first release! Since then they have given us demos and EP's, now it’s finally time for their debut album. However, that doesn’t mean they are unknown for us, because we have heard from them a number of times, we even saw their performance at this years Inferno Metal Festival in Norway. Worlds Open, Worlds Collide is what defines this band and it’s got material that is as old as ten years or more along with brand new.

One Tail, One Head is a Nidrosian black metal band from Trondheim, Norway. Their music is very mysterious and dark. They’re known for their extremely engaging live acts. They are definitely going for a Venom style riffing. Many may not be familiar with the Nidrosian black metal scene, it’s a group of bands that has been pushing the Norwegian scene forward with their black art. The musicians are active in several bands. Also they’re well known for having the ritualism where you imagine a table of dead things, everything is absolute evil and darkness. The term was created around 2004, when the Norwegian black metal started evolving and labels and people all over the world praised everything coming from this country.

Moving on to the new album that contains ten tracks with a total of almost 47 minutes. It opens with a one minute intro 'Certainly Not' that drifts into the second track 'Arrival, Yet Again' with a catchy slowly sharp guitar riff that from an instant turns into this battle of screams, one sounds like he’s underwater and trying to connect to the one above and in the background there’s an outbreak of instruments that goes hand in hand with each other and that makes it a big masterpiece. This song describes the band so well, it’s powerfull and a brilliant way to kick this album off! 'Worlds Open, Worlds Collide' is the album-titled song, and from the beginning there is a ton of energy, the drums and guitars are performing aggresively almost confusing. Until we hit those 2:20 minutes and there is a long break, almost atmospheric with tortured noisy voice and screaming. Then back to the high energy part with a high harsh scream until the end. 'Stellar Storms' was one of their pre-releases and this is definitely one of the strongest black metal tracks on this album. The guitars are fantastic, absolutely great gripping bass sound and deep hoarse vocals. With that being said, for the length of this song it just doesn’t manage to keep me interested enough throughout the entire seven minutes.

Next track is ambient and slow 'An Utter Lack of Meaning, Hitherto Unbeknowst, Suddenly Revealed'. This is an instrumental break from all the chaos going on on this album. Everything is turning even more aggressive than before when 'Firebirds' starts. Though I was disappointed to find out that they re-used this track, when they actually released it last year, and you expect new material only. Tortured, harsh and raw howls are coming through and abrasive guitars. This is total darkness! 'Sordid Sanctitude' is all I expected. The bass by Andreas Tylden is doing a whole lot to this album, especially this song, it’s absolutely atmospheric, and it gives the album an even darker feeling. Another pre-release 'Rise in Red' is a song full off speed and catchy lyrics, but to be honest it didn’t catch me for a second. 'Passage' might be one of the most incredible tracks on this album, it has got everything from those raw intense vocals and blazing riffs. It even got this amazing ending with a beautiful guitar riff. Final track on this release is also the longest one. 'Summon Surreal Surrender', it's a powerful song that grows as it goes further. Again I have to say I’m not impressed by the second long track on this release. There is so much going on and it’s total confusion and for me not in a good way. There is of course many good riffs and what sounds like a choir, but the bass is destroying it for me and it’s almost everything I can hear on this track.

Worlds Open, Worlds Collide is a good debut album for sure, but I have to admit I was disappointed by so many things compared to what other releases they have shown before. I wanted it to be a lot more raw black metal and somber but it just went more black n' roll for me.
