This evening started out when Naglfar appeared on stage, right on schedule. The band consists of 5 members, Kristoffer Olivius “Wrath” on vocals, Andreas Nilsson and Marcus Norman on guitar and Alex Friberg on bass. One could see that this was going to be One hot evening, especially with an almost full foyer.

As Naglfar was supporting for this evening’s special show, Dark Funeral’s 25 years anniversary Swedish tour. Already from the start one could feel the mood from the audience. Right from that moment and until the very last song, played by Dark Funeral, the audience were very energetic, and communicated a lot with especially Naglfar. This has been, by far, one of the absolute best Naglfar live performances, I have ever seen. Kristoffer “Wrath” Olivius delivered a total mind-blowing performance while the sweat was dripping down his face throughout the whole set. There was nothing less than strong spirited members on that stage. Sadly, there were some minor problems with Norman’s guitar at some point in the show, but this did not affect the audience’s good spirit, and they began to scream even more to keep the show alive while the vocalist “Wrath” tried to distract with some Smalltalk for entertainment, which was not quite impressive by the way.
This evening started off with the powerful track “And the World Shall be your Grave” from my personal favourite Naglfar album Pariah, then followed by “The Darkest Road” from the Harvest album and of course “I Am Vengeance” from their third album Sheol. Let me just say that the setlist was killer! And suddenly those 40 minutes the band was given to play, went by too quickly, and the audience could not agree more.

Naglfar receives: 5/6

After a small break and a trip to the merch stands, it was now time for some dark symphonic and theatrical things to happen. Everything ran a bit later than planned, but the audience stood still, waiting for Dark Funeral to appear right in front of them, so they could lose themselves into their music.

Now this evening was all about celebrating Dark Funeral’s 25 years anniversary. Since 1993, the band has made great black metal music, and has won many people’s souls, which has led them to become what they are today. The only originally member left is the guitarist Lord Ahriman, who still does an outstanding job. This year they have had some big changes in the band. They switched their previous drummer “Dominator” out with “Jalomaah” ex-Evocation and Despite drummer and they brought bassist “Adra-Melek” into their darkness as well.

People had now been waiting long enough, while looking at their phones, and Dark Funeral’s intro came right on. Opening song this evening was “Unchain My Soul” which was perfect for the audience to get hooked on right from the start.
The audience were high on the music and the dark feeling of this show. There were some complications with the guitars, as they were drowning in the drums because they were very loud throughout the beginning, and the vocal sound under “As I Ascend” was very low, but it got fixed quickly. The energy from the band was missing from the outset, but as soon as they had warmed up, everything got possessed. What really made this evening good, was that they played a nice long set of sixteen song with many fan-favourites that really showed what 25 years of Dark Funeral was like and Heljarmadr’s face was filled with abhorrence while he looked at everyone in the audience. After all, there was something missing right there, almost like Dark Funeral itself was not ready for this misty night and their mini-tour with Naglfar to begin. After seeing them so many times I could not stop myself from thinking that their anniversary tour should have been a lot more theatrical, or bigger, and this was not that big of a celebration.
Sadly, it was more the audience that celebrated Dark Funeral’s 25 years of existence than they did.

Dark Funeral receives: 3/6
