Today is the day where I can finally share with all of you what my time and thoughts have been about for the last month. For a month I have been so insanely lucky to listen alongside on SoundCloud on the new album, which has been a very emotional and hard experience but also a way to renew, in the form of what this album really pushes of boundaries. On this album, it is all about not being afraid to listen to yourself and feel what the music really does. "Så kom mørket..." is an album that can be interpreted in every way, because it is not all of us who have the same imaginations when we first let it all go.

Morild is a Danish black metal band from Copenhagen that was formed back in 2016. In September 2017 they released their EP "VI" which was very well received by the listeners. Today they release their debut album,

"Så kom mørket og tog mig på ordet En sort sky af minder I afgørende stunder Frosset fast til mit indre Jeg håber det forsvinder med lyset At dø eller blive fri"

which is written after the release of "VI" in the transition from summer to autumn, to winter and is recorded over the spring and summer of 2018. The album consists of six songs, and Morild itself has been responsible for recording, production, and mix of the album. The long album title is based on each title of songs there is in the album, shaped into one long album title.
Opening track 'Så kom mørket og tog mig på ordet' is the shortest one on the album. Although it is short, it is probably the best intro to be introduced by on this album. To begin with, one is greeted by a very chaotic mix between a lot of instruments that form some kind of cloud that gets heavier and heavier the longer you get to the end. In the meantime, there is a woman's voice all the way through the song that gives a placid feeling, and that complements the gloomy and painful male voice to a level that is indescribable. This song is filled with the ability to take over your thoughts with a pleasant calm but stretches to fill your head with thoughts of everything between heaven and earth. 'En sort sky af minderbreaks directly into shambolic guitar sounds that go hand in hand with the sorrowful and despairing voice. The guitar sounds are shot in so many different directions that tie the song together into a long piece that radiates solitude. Halfway through the song, everything tones down and forms itself into a constant torment that has set itself right in the middle of the forehead and just wants to be eradicated. The tension rises and although it is still there, it feels so good cause it is filled with memories. 'I afgørende stunder' starts out with a repetitive intro played towards something deeper. A lonely voice in the distance that wants contact, while thousands of voices and memories run through your head. It all rises and the only thing you want is to shout or wipe off the pain but nobody really listens to what you say. The end of the song ends very atmospherically and fades out along with these marked drums and then it continues just as perfectly into 'Frosset fast til mit indre'. The instruments follow each other at a high pace right from the start and, in addition, the distant vocal comes back filled with grief. It is difficult to understand what the lyrics tell us throughout the entire album but it is not where the focus should be, but on what you fell from it. The pace dips a bit and the bewitching woman's voice from earlier returns and gives a phenomenal feeling of calm and relaxation. Along with it, there is a guitar sound that is so unique and independent that it melts on the very top of your tongue, and like a roller coaster, it repeats itself. That sounds is what takes Morild to a completely different stage. The song ends with a huge outbreak and ends abruptly. This track is in many ways different from the rest of the songs as it is so thoughtful and strong. The atmospheric part is constantly at it wildest.

'Jeg håber det forsvinder med lyset' is a song that distances itself so much from the rest of the album, with an acoustic instrumental song that sounds carefree in the tones although it does not change the many feelings you have been through so far. It seems like a good break from all the thoughts. Closing song 'At dø eller blive fri' has a strong riff throughout the song that defines it very well. The vocals cut directly where it can be felt, and a few minutes into the song the tempo falls and the guitar changes into a very traditional black metal sound. It develops into a large heavy sound that ends in a completely unique way while the instruments play up to towards each other and fade out together with the again beautiful woman voice. It is a song that can be felt deeply.

I definitely have a weakness for long song that melts into each other, and sounds like one long number. Which is something that is happening from the transition between 'I afgørende stuner' and 'Frosset fat til mit indre' and it is breathtaking. What you hear here is not the typical black metal sound throughout the entire album which is refreshing, but I still miss that it would pierce my soul so deeply and that is missing when I hear the album at home. That is something I am hoping to reach today when the band will be playing their release party at Den Blå Planet in Copenhagen for a sold out concert. There is no doubt that this is a masterpiece of an album and it will be heard numerous times.
