By Metal To Go
The 10th edition of COPENHELL started out with yet another year of having a warm-up day. Many attended the extra day in hell but sadly beergarden seemed to be more thrilling for the festival crowd than the bands and their music itself.
Both rock and metal was acts was booked for this day at Pandæmonium stage. Five bands from the States, New Zealand, Sweden and even a greek band for the first time in COPENHELL history.
EODM
A band that sure did fit with some of the other rock musicians that played the stage earlier this day, but they were out of place. Sure if it was Roskilde Festival it would have suited better but for COPENHELL the crowd did not seem to buy it. Their name was like taken straight out of a garage rock band from one of Adam Sandlers movies “Airheads” which just raised more questions than answers. Coming on stage full on American style with sunglassed, cowboy hats and handlebars was a great attemp of really showing their true selfs but from the start only the first couple of rows in the crowd showed their interest. The show was absolutely monotonous and sometimes the frontman disappeared which just made it more of another failure of a booking for this crowd and festival.
As soon as the band opened with their forst song the rain started pouring down and a lot in the crowd started to flee. Due to the bad weather many stayed and enjoyed the beautiful tunes of Katatonia. The rain was well suited for the music and it seemed like the crowd got sucked into their univers. Sadly the rain was also hitting the stage so the band had a stagehand constantly mopping the floor. After all they played well, had a full on covered good setlist of songs and was thankful for the crowd that stayed.
Immolation
Finally some brutal metal and holy s**t as soon as they begun a big mosh-pit started. This really looked like what many metalheads needed and the feeling was evil. This is what belongs at COPENHELL. The band really played well and was the biggest highlight of the night. Their guitarist was really setting the mood with his energetic personality, swinging his guitar around while banging his hand in the air, the crowd was dynamic. Sadly the other guitarist did not follow his level and mostly looked like he did not want to be there at all. But after all a really good ending to the night with some deep growls from New York City.
