Feather Mountain: Nidus (Album review)

Feather Mountain - Nidus
Release date: 20/9/2019
Label: Independent
By: X.K

Normally I specialize in the more extreme section of music such as different aspects of metal, but there is certainly something special, catchy, drifting, soft, and even excessive over this debut album. The Danish prog-rock band Feather Mountain that is driven by these five young men that began their recordings in March '19 have now satisfied represented their debut "Nidus".

Talking about the debut from an overall first perception, the album has a lot of various ambiances that take one through a lot of sentiments that are entirely due to the vocals that create the deeper character and mood in an instant. From the very beginning, 'Nidus' introduces us to a whole universe that disturbs the mind and draws something somber out of yourself just like a disease and not to mention how highly produced the album is which makes it so much more pleasing. One is constantly brought to new depths throughout the record and especially after listening to it for a while it just gets stronger in its content by every hearing. There are so many different dynamic elements, it is all so accurately composed and forms these huge solid tracks where several characteristic vocals come together in the best sense with the songwriting itself.

Feather Mountains at Beta in Copenhagen

I had the opportunity to experience them at Beta in Copenhagen where they live created the very same universe as on record. The mood was intense for listeners like me but had surely not quite the same effect for new listeners, which tells a lot about 'Nidus' creation and how much it is not an album for every soul. There is certainly something sentimental about it too and if you have listened a lot to rock-prog bands from the 90s like Puddle Of Mudd, Trapt, or Saliva who is pure sex to the ears or at least my guilty pleasures when we talk about that type of rock, there are clearly some similarities which is a sound that is missing on a global basis this era.

Overall this album impressed me to the fullest even beyond my wildest first readings of the promo material I got send. I have always had a guilty pleasure for this type of sound and to hear an album like this from a Danish band was not for me to expect nowadays. Details are something that is strongly thought of on this release and for me I loved the part of hearing the opening track title also closing of the last song. Definitely recommended from my part and if you get the chance to experience them live I recommend hearing the album first.

We give this album
Out of 6
