Ereb Altor - Järtecken
Release date: 20/9/2019
Label: Hammerheart Records
By: Xenia Kromann
Back in 2003 Ereb Altor was created as a continuation of Isole's style and they're mainly influences by Bathory. Eleven years have passed since the release of their eternal memorized debut album 'By Honour' and here we are today with one blazing pagan release. Both the lyrics and the instrumental parts in each song carry some profound vocals as well as riffs. Simultaneously there are parts that are distributed throughout the album making it a historic and haunting release to their everlasting spirit and Bathory references.

The albums first number "Avgudadyrkans Väg" is a Swedish anthem that in its attitude lays the classic atmosphere of their own original sound. Exact in this song the chorus really kicks everything off and combined with the repetitive guitars that are truly defined by its own sound, the loud attacking vocals sets this album in the right direction.
"Queen of All Seas" continues the atmosphere before turning to the more aggressive soundscape. This one certainly has a lot to give, the catchy melody builds itself up throughout and especially the hymns gives such an intense aura. The last part, seven minutes in, yes, the epic sharp riffs, nordic melodies, marked drums that comes-together that is what Ereb Altor does.

Moving to "Alliance in Blood", "Chained" and "Prepare For War" which are all tracks that sound alike but with various similarities to the rest of the album. At this point, the abusive vocals and crushing riffs shows how much more aggressive, up-speed and above in energy they are.
Highlighting a track like "My Demon Inside" or "With Fire In My Hearts..." really shows their haunting songwriting characteristic style that always has been their massive strength is again written all over this detailed album. Like their previous album, this one is kept heavy and most solid with sections that have a lot more added keyboard which suids certain numbers to perfection. The swift between clean and harsh vocals makes this battle-qualified release that much more dark, intense and forceful, a powerful combination of every epic instrument, 'Järtecken' is one of the most impressive releases for 2019 so far. Ereb Altor has since 'By Honour' and till this day caught my attention and this will certainly make Quorthon smile.
