GENFÆRD - 'HÆVNEN' SINGLE PREMIERE FROM UPCOMING SECOND ALBUM "BLODHÆVN"

By X.K

It has been four years since Genfærd released their self-titled debut album that was well received especially in the Danish underground metal scene. So what can we really look forward to with this second album coming out next year? One of the things that stands out immediately on 'Hævnen' is the production of it and how well mixed it is compared to four years ago. They have taken it to a more lively soundscape that jumps more in interest combined with their development which is clearly, but not to forget their original sound still stands and that is what I find most important.

'Hævnen' is one out of the 9 tracks that will be released of "Blodhævn" in 2020. Going back to talk a little bit about the alluring and well remarkable piece of artwork that will be carrying this record, it is quite a statement that is written in the blood of the artist himself Maxime Taccardi. It comes together as a fresh outlook that carries something contemporary.

A couple of days ago I had a small talk with one of my friend 'J' from the band where I asked him some questions about 'Hævnen' and the overall look on "Blodhævn".

X: The new album as you announced will contain 9 tracks, but what made you guys consider 'Hævnen' as the first single out to represent "Blodhævn "?
J: We considered Hævnen the best introduction to Blodhævn. Overall, our songs have grown longer, but Hævnen is a good bridge between our older and new material in both length and feeling.

X: Can you tell us the story behind 'Hævnen'? And how was the lyrics formed from there?
J: The first 1½ minute of the song and the outro is actually composed by an old friend of mine, who sadly is no longer among the living. We used to play in a band together, and using these riffs was for me a small tribute to him, and making his work come to life once more.
Regarding the lyrics, Hævnen is as the title suggests, a song about revenge, how it fills your soul, consumes it and channels anger into action.

X: As a long-time listener of Genfærd, I noticed that a third vocal is added on 'Hævnen'. Is that something we can look forward to hearing on the entire album and can we get a clear answer if that is yourself responsible for these eager and restless vocals?
J: Yes, both S. and I supply our own vocals in addition to T. doing the lion's share of the lines. Hævnen is mostly T. powering through, but we all have some great sections throughout the album. We're very proud of how the vocals turned out.

X: How was it putting a second record together for Genfærd, after all it is four years since your first album.
J: Bonebreaking. Without going into much detail, we've suffered under numerous setbacks in creating this album and getting it to this stage has been a herculean task.

X: Thanks for wanting to talk to me. Do you have anything you would like to add, or your listeners to know about Genfærd at this point?
J: Thank you so much for your support! We wouldn't be doing this without our fans and our families, and we're grateful to have made Blodhævn for you all to enjoy soon.
