Through the years, Baise Ma Hache released four full-length albums including F.E.R.T. Since the latest album 'Bréviaire du chaos' and their newest release 'Vive la mort!' the French black metal band has given us some of the most brutal, cruel and brilliant French black metal that has been published the last couple of years. There is something special about it, an extravagant type of sound. Baise Ma Hache, which is French for Fuck my Axe, came from the fact that they did not want to take it too seriously. Yet they felt like "Baise Ma Hache" sounded better than "Go fuck yourself".

"Baise Ma Hache is supposed to be used as a war cry against those who don't appreciate us, in the same way as "ME NE FREGO". - BMH

Each of the albums has their characteristic markings like harsh shouting comments and raw folkish melodies. Moving on to the new release of theirs, F.E.R.T is the abbreviation for "Frappez, Entrez, Rompez Tout" which directly means "Strike, Enter, Break Everything" in English, it is definitely the right title for this album with everything that is happening on it. This album contains eight tracks with a total variation of 51 minutes.

Digging into the album, we are presented from the start with the longest track of them all, 'Le crépuscule des
gueux' also 'The Twilight of the Beggars’ has a repeating guitar riff all the way through the song. The song starts out slowly and builds up to something bigger while staying up there for the rest of this 12-minute song. High-pitched screams, loud male shouting, and deep rough comments are what defines it. 'F.E.R.T' the self-titled number has this insane energy and total aggressiveness over it. Starts out with a man’s choir shouting in unity, that really gets us in the mood for this temper-filled song. After the choir, a feeling of getting smashed in the face by this deep screaming vocal is lead on by the instruments proceeding like an explosion. This song was one of their first premieres and with the opportunity to hear this song repeatedly before the rest of the album just put an idea in my head of how the rest was turning out. However, this album still took me by surprise positively. 'Traité du rebelle' is the shortest track on the album; this song is featuring Paul Waggener (Operation Werewolf). This acoustic song opens with some type of war sounds of people stamping or shooting with low sounds in the background. The special thing about this track is that it is in English, there are no screams just a man talking, telling us a story. With this incredibly beautiful acoustic sound, it just stands out compared to the rest of the album. Beautiful!

Halfway through the album, we return to the massive energy! 'Insociabile Regnum' kicks off with what sounds like when old movies start out. Then we get this French style of yelling statements through the whole song with a typical Baise Ma Hache distorted guitar sound, ending with some harsh scratchy vocals. This next one starts out with some fine tapped acoustic guitar riffs and erupts into total mayhem. ‘Furia Francese’ is a song where I feel every word of their meaning, I feel honest pain and in the end, I wish it were a song only accompanied by those fine acoustic riffs. This is also featured the Italian black metal band
Frangar. ‘Baise Leur Monde Immonde’ is the sixth song of the album. The guitar continues in the same manner as the previous songs while the vocals go hand in hand with it. There is a point where the song stops and slows down in pace, then to return in tempo and fades out right into the intro of ‘Aux Modernes’. This track is featuring the Swedish martial industrial and neoclassical band Arditi that consists members of black metal band Algaion and Octinomos. You can really hear the effect they have had on this song but still in the spirits of Baise Ma Hache. The vocals are what sounds like coming from a megaphone; it is kind of a marching song. ‘Délivrance’ is what I would call a classic track of theirs, without a doubt the most complete track on the album and is obviously the best finishing song. It’s got all the things I previously described in this review. If you listen to only one song, this should be it.

This is definitely a strong album, but compared to earlier releases I see too much of the same in each track, it all sounds similar in the end. The mix of acoustic and total chaos have an effect on how this album got that recognizable sound of F.E.R.T. My favorite thing is by far the combination between painful harsh screams and pure vocal, creating a symbiosis that puts the right touch on this record.
