Once in a while, you might have noticed that we cover other than the usual metal gigs here and there. Wednesday evening was one of those sold-out events at Pumpehuset in Copenhagen where the Russian band Little Big swung by on their first European tour to hit Danish region.
Little Big is a Russian pop band that performs Russian rave at its purest, but with that being said, the band draws huge inspirations from the metal world where bands as Cannibal Corpse, Rammstein, The Prodigy and more influences. They have their own label called "The Little Big Family" where they invite rock/punk bands like The Hatters and more. The interest was there for us cause they have the same message as many of the metal bands we cover and on top of that, the band also goes to the extreme with their music and looks just like their counterpart Perturbator and the hip hop group Die Antwoord.
The day before they had a show in England that got canceled due to theft in their tour bus which ended with some lost passports and that could easily have affected the Copenhagen show. The doors opened 2 hours before Little Big was set to be on stage and while waiting there was an unannounced DJ hyping the crowd. The venue was packed with cheering and singing fans to summon Little Big. DJ "Gokk" as he is called rushed onto the stage and flew right on his desk to hype the crowd who yelled higher than the music. First of all, there are two kinds of DJ's. One who plays enter on the laptop and one who mixes the music and makes it on stage, this was doubtless the press enter one and in that case, it did not matter at all cause he was the most active one on stage with his massive appearance everywhere which obsessed the audience even more. Throughout the evening, the DJ desk was used as a dancing/jumping space. With no support, the band had an entire venue to please by themselves, opening with "Punks Not Dead" jumping around and instantaneous igniting the crowd, that was a mix of metalheads, hipsters and so on, everyone was pleased showing it by going berserk the entire night like there was no end. The plot for Little Big is always to establish a huge celebration, and they accomplished that for sure with all those who walked back and forth between the bar and the stage. Talking about the setlist that was a total mix of everything from the old stuff to new, it was twenty-two song long and in between they had the Russian hip hop artist Tatarka to perform a number together and one alone, this was no surprise but an act they have with them on half of the tour. Every song a fan would like to hear was played, and while playing "Russian Hooligans" a wall of death happened, but due to their proper bad English, it sounded like they wanted a wall of dance which was quite fitting in this case. Songs like "Give Me Your Money", "Lollybomb" and their most heard song "Skibidi" was played when everyone danced their well-known Skibidi dance, ending the show with their second most heard song "Faradenza" that was a huge ending of the evening.
The show was overall more than expected, and the word break was nowhere to be found in their set, the Russian had energy many do not have. Lightning, dancing, jumping, and singing was more than expected, even the vocals and the sound overall was just like on records. Sadly they were missing a member of the band for the show which maybe explains why the DJ had the energy for two. The venue was too small for all the people who could not attend cause they were on the waiting list. One mad show by the true power of the Russians!
