In many ways, Forndom is an exceptional gift to the world of music and with yet another big release, "Faþir" has reached immense heights within my personal preferences for folk music. These seven tracks puts the mind on a travel through the ambient ritualistic touch of Scandinavian folk music, captured in the album's structure.
Previously releases "Flykt" & "Dauðra Dura" has each taken separate paths in some perspectives and in several approaches, this new record is the ideal mix of both earlier creations. Here we have an album that really embraces the mind without presenting too much. The detail is astonishingly beautiful on each track where the surrounding ambient sounds create the overall soundscape in guidance of the tagelharpa that is raised by the mixture of his passionate vocals and old instruments like his drumming technique on the frame drums, which strengthens the deeper you get, while the listener is being absorbed into his world that radiates life, positivity, and nature.
I'm taken by the emotional connection and movement this record has done to me while writing this, as this album buries itself in your mind. Regarding the production, it is not necessarily better, but way more solid in its content that has plenty to deliver. I am inspired by his way of working with music, how he conducts the ritualistic, and this time more "clean" atmosphere, that you will need to hear in one unbroken session. This record gives us both instrumental and catchy sing-a-long flashes and I cannot wait to get a new date on the Copenhagen show, to hopefully experience this new release in a live format.
