Well, it's time to take a step back in time, to a time where metal was all about believing in yourself and kick ass. Audience, meet the new Spirit Adrift album Enlightened in Eternity! To start with some bio on the band, they are a heavy metal band out of Phoenix, Arizona which have released 4 studio albums. At the moment they are a duo with main man Nate Garrett doing everything but the drums, which is handled by Marcus Bryant. The band have in the past had members from death metal band Gatecreeper whom Nate also plays bass for. The two previous albums have been a mix of heavy metal with stoner rock which has gained them the hype of bringing a new and fresh take on the genre of stoner rock and bring the next generation into loving this style of music, a sort of passing on the torch from bands like Corrosion of Conformity as well as other bands from the southern USA.

Spirit Adrift

Enlightened in Eternity kicks off with the song Ride Into the Light, which starts with a cool retro solo before going into the main riff that is a total banger. Nate starts singing and the galloping Iron Maiden-esque riff gets you ready to Ride Into the Light with sword and beer in hand. It really gets the adrenaline going, and I am willing to bet this is going to be the song they are going to open shows with, whenever that will be possible again. All in all, this song is just meant to be played live on full blast.

Next song, Astral Levitation, is a slower song and just has a very nice old school riff that backup Nate's singing and it is an uplifting theme about believing in yourself and not letting the bastards get to you. Mid-way through the song they bring back the guitar harmonies which makes you think of bands like Thin Lizzy, Iron Maiden etc. before closing the song on the chorus for one last reminder to stay true.

Cosmic Conquest with it's drum'n bass introduction and it's great riff kicks in and we are once again off with another A-level anthem about going for it and don't let anything stop you. While all this is going on, the super catchy bass riff is there to hold it all together and keep it somewhat groovy again. The bass riff on this song is really awesome, easily the best part of this song. The rest of the album is full of similar great songs about kicking ass and taking no shit from the Man.

In conclusion, I think Spirit Adrift has made a great album with Enlightened in Eternity; They have managed to re-invent their sound and add new fuel and thoughts, but still stay true to their own past and the style that got me into them from the last two albums. The future is bright for this band and I hope to see them live soon.
