Cytotoxin receives 6/6
After a small break we were back on track for the next act, exactly the French death grind band Benighted. There was so much energy and charisma from the front-man Julien Truchan and their bassist and second vocalist Pierre Arnoux, that really gave the entire show a mighty vivacity. This time the rest of the audience showed up for this hell-of-a-tour, which gave an entirely different feeling of how many people there actually were in the crowd for the show this evening. Through the set, they played "Teeth and Hatred" and "Martyr" from their new EP "Dogs Always Bite Harder Than Their Master" released last month. They played a little bit over half an hour, with a strong list of tracks.
However, they did not leave marks of impression on me in the end, and that was disappointing because their performance was very energetic and the songs were played brutally tight, but compared to the other bands this evening, they managed to attract me the least. The lightning was annoying me almost the entire show, because that it blinded the audience too much. One cannot say about the audience, who gave everything they could in form of circle pits, dancing and them screaming the song titles that were played, what gave a whole set through the body.

Extreme death metal band Cryptopsy from Canada was up next. It has been six years since the album release of their self-titled album. This year they came out with the second EP "The Book of Suffering - Tome II" which also this year became a compilation release of both the first EP and the second. As they appeared on stage the front-man Matt McCathy worked on stage as if he was possessed, he gave himself one hundred percent to the stage and the audience with his otherworldly energy. Watching their drummer Flo Mounier drum was hypnotizing and mesmerizing, going so fast. Old material and even some new ones were presented to us.
The mood from the stage was absolutely crazy and electric, which infected the audience that went even more out of themselves, having no limits on how extreme and jumpy they could be than the two previous shows this Wednesday night. There was a special kind of energy between the stage and the crowd, which made this performance one of the best ones this evening.

For the evening’s final and headlining act, Belgian death metal band Aborted took over the stage. They just release their tenth full-length album “TerrorVision” two months ago, which gave them a good reason to come on tour, and this show was very influenced by that new release. The stage was taken over by two rotting skeletons in a display, with their backdrop filled with the monstrous art and two spears with masked heads. There was definitely a transformation from Cryptopsy to Aborted. They are without a doubt a show band compared to the previous two bands. Appeared on stage was first the insanely skilled drummer Ken Bedene followed by the rest of the band one by one. Starting out with a piano intro chased by the title track “TerrorVision”. Their set list contained half of their fresh material.
The mood was a little less electric in the beginning and the audience seemed to absorb and take everything in that was happening right in front of them. There was more to take in with this last band because of the scene props, and now there was more place on stage to move around on, with all these drums and instruments gone from the other bands. The front-man Svencho seemed a little reserved in the beginning, but as he got warmed up, everything changed. Due to the beautiful stage props, which actually made it for me, I was hoping for more to get me caught right into their world and sadly it did not happen. The crowd was also warmed up after their small moment of taken it all in and went absolutely crazy. There was energy coming from the crowd, you could feel it from the venue and probably through the whole town. Circle pits, crowd surfing, and even crowd diving’s were happening and there was no intention of stopping while they were still on stage. Sadly, people began to leave while the band was still playing their last song, and to me, it was even an early time the whole show ended.

Wednesday we were witnesses to what was an exceptional evening by four death metal bands from different parts of Europe and Canada. This extreme metal tour was just what the Danish fans have been waiting for, and many had even gotten their tickets back when this tour was just announced. “Hell Over Europe II” is a twenty-two days tour, with show number eighteen in Pumpehuset, Copenhagen.
The first act was the German technical/brutal death metal band Cytotoxin. They have been touring a lot these last months, and this time they finally landed in Copenhagen, Denmark for the first time. One could tell that their fan base here is big and they have been waiting for this day to come. Appearing on stage was five members wearing the same shirt with a radioactive logo on, and the front-man Grimo also wearing a gas mask and in his hands a barrel with "nuclear waste". The energy was there from the very beginning and the crowd was engrossed. The vocalist really managed to get the whole place in motion, because he was so engaging with the audience, but maybe even a bit too much talking. Woefully they got on stage only fifteen minutes after the opening of the venue and many people did not have the chance to be there for the whole set or there at all. There was circle pit going on for almost the entire show and even once the vocalist has the microphone down his throat while he was still singing which made people laugh. The last few songs they performed was with the entire band wearing their gas masks and Grimo going in the middle of the circle pit to show how it was done in Cytotoxin manner. I can only say, I was surprised by the entire show they had in plan for us this evening and I was so glad that I came out to hear something other than my usual black metal. This show was definitely a revelation and the whole deal with their theme for the band was incredible.

There was so much merchandise for everyone to get, and it was in the cheaper end, so everyone had the chance to get some. This brutal death metal evening ended with a joyful sight when the entire crowd chants along to Rick Astley. The entire night went to fast with small breaks between each band. It was good tough, on a Wednesday night, compared to all these late events happening at the moment.
